Meet Betty

title-line

I believe my interest in painting began with oil paint-by-numbers as a young child. After taking oil painting lessons in my mid-twenties, I eventually transitioned to watercolor after meeting Bruce Butte, who was the Art Director at Harry and David and taught workshops in his Jacksonville, Oregon studio.

Since I was teaching school, I painted only on Saturdays, but I was hooked on the challenge and spontaneity of transparent watercolors, as it more accurately reflected the feelings I wished to convey.

I taught fourth and sixth grade, including art education, for 25 years in the Medford School District, and have lived in the Rogue Valley with my husband Don since 1974.

I consider my artwork to be interpretive as I paint what I feel best represents my vision. I have signature memberships in the Watercolor Society of Oregon and the Northwest Watercolor Society.

My work is currently shown at Art & Soul Ashland, in Ashland, Oregon, Hart Mt. Store in Plush, Oregon, and the Rogue Gallery and Art Center in Medford, Oregon.
